Dresser Elementary School Celebrates Arbor Day!

On Friday, April 30th the Dresser Elementary School students' celebrated Arbor Day. Students were able to take part in a coloring contest, performed Arbor Day songs while donning colorful tee shirts and participated in "Nature Station Rotations." The station rotations included an examination of a tree as it progresses through the seasons, proper ways to plant a tree, students were also able to use their imaginations to create "pinecone creatures," studied the wildlife that lives within trees and concluded their station rotation activities with an adventurous hike through the forest. Village of Dresser Public Works employees demonstrated for the students how to properly plant a tree. The tree was planted behind the Dresser school building and will be enjoyed by our future generations. Each student also savored a variety of delicious treats donated by local businesses, taking home a "baby" tree with accompanying planting instructions. Thank you to all who participated in Dresser Elementary Schools special day.

Live, Virtual Field Trips

Three of our elementary classes elected to participate in virtual, "live" ITV field trips this school year. Mrs. Kerkow's second grade class linked up with Weaver Lake Elementary School in Maple Grove, MN to meet and share their animal projects during Read Across the Planet week.

Mrs. Henk's and Mrs. Mork's classes visited the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo (Ohio) via a live link to participate in a program on wolves. St. Croix Falls elementary students met and competed against students with a school in New York and a school in Ohio in a "wolf trivia" contest. The cost of these programs vary from free to minimal and are available to school districts in our area. Students may participate in a variety of field trips without ever having to leave their classrooms.

Dr. Seuss Celebrates His 106th Birthday

Dear Parents,
Welcome to my elementary school blog and photo gallery. During the week of March 1-5, we celebrated Dr. Seuss' 106th birthday along with Read Across the Planet. Everyone enjoyed participating in the various daily activities. Students donned hats on hat day, wore crazy socks, along with green and animal print clothing. On Friday morning students enjoyed a breakfast of "green eggs and ham" served by our wonderful cafeteria ladies while wearing sunglasses. Could they really see what they were eating? Most students agreed that "Who" Hair Day was their favorite day. Daily prizes of bookmarks and pencils were given to each student and a grand prize drawing was held on the final day of the birthday celebration. Grand prizes included collector's editions of several Dr. Seuss books and Seuss themed stuffed animals. A six foot, inflatable birthday cake was housed in the library. Each grade level also decorated their classroom door and they all looked great!
